Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "The History Just before You Were Born series (6 titles) takes an interesting angle for its selection of topics, many of which won't feel like history at all to adults. Nevertheless, this stuff is ancient to today's kids, who are introduced to the 1990s' Human Genome Project (HGP) in this slim volume. Brief, topical chapters define genome and the history, purpose, and major players of the HGP. An overview of genetic research, including contributions from Gregor Mendel and Rosalind Franklin, is also included. It's a big topic that occasionally gets muddled by the way the information is organized, and, in one case, a DNA illustration is devoid of labels; but the big picture remains easily discernible. The rapid advances in scientific tools and important applications of genetic research will no doubt impress students.--Julia Smith Copyright 2019 Booklist"
