Soon to be a show on Hulu!

Texas Hold'em: A Wild Cards Novel is an adventure in the bestselling shared-universe science fiction superhero series, edited by #1 New York Times bestselling author George R. R. Martin.

San Antonio, home of the Alamo, is also host to the nation's top high school jazz competition, and the musicians at Xavier Desmond High are excited to outplay their rivals. They are also jokers, kids with strange abilities and even stranger looks. On top of that, well, they are teenagers , apt for mischief, mishaps, and romantic misunderstandings.

Michelle Pond, aka The Amazing Bubbles, thinks that her superhero (and supermom) know-how has prepared her to chaperone the event. But when her students start going wayward, she'll soon discover the true meaning of "Don't mess with Texas."

Texas Hold'em features the writing talents of David Anthony Durham (Acacia Trilogy), Max Gladstone (the Craft Sequence), Victor Milan (Dinosaur Lords series), Diana Rowland (Kara Gillian and White Trash Zombie series), Walton Simons, Caroline Spector and William F. Wu.

Rights to develop Wild Cards have been acquired by Universal Cable Productions, the team behind The Magicians and Mr. Robot , with the co-editor of Wild Cards, Melinda Snodgrass, as executive producer.

Published Reviews
Publisher's Weekly Review: "This 26th Wild Cards collaboration (following 2018's Low Chicago) keeps the stakes low and the conflicts personal. In 1946, the release of the alien "wild card" virus transformed the world, killing most of its victims while transforming the survivors into superpowered aces and disfigured jokers. This entry focuses on the teen musicians of the Xavier Desmond High School Jazz Band, aka the Jokertown Mob, as they travel to San Antonio, Tex., for a competition. Several stories possess YA crossover appeal, with David Anthony Durham's "Drop City" and Diana Rowland's "Beats, Bugs, and Boys" featuring the teen protagonists as they tackle anti-joker bias, relationship drama, inter-band rivalries, and sabotaged performances. Meanwhile, their adult chaperones have their own problems: Caroline Spector's "Bubbles and the Band Trip" and Max Gladstone's "The Secret Life of Rubberband" see their heroes hunting ghosts and confronting religious bigots, while the late Victor MilA¡n's "Dust and the Darkness" deals with a detective hired to retrieve a missing musician. Overall, this collection feels less intense than previous volumes, with more comedic undertones to balance the seriousness, and less darkness in general. With its ensemble cast of returning favorites and intriguing newcomers, it's a welcome change of pace, a satisfying palate cleanser before the series begins its next big arc.
