Summary
Eleven-year-old Matt is struggling in school and he has to set up his own business to save his failing math grade. But what is he even good at? The only thing he truly loves is his team of dogs, and so Matt's Sled Dog School is born. Teaching dogsledding should be easy, right?

But people, just like dogs, can be unpredictable. And sometimes the bravest thing a person can do is admit they need help. Like Terry Lynn Johnson's popular Ice Dogs, Sled Dog School is about overcoming adversity, finding your strengths, and your friends, and following your passions.
Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "Eleven-year-old Matt Misco loves dogsledding it's something he's good at and enjoys, unlike school, where he struggles with classwork. Hoping to pass math, Matt takes an extra-credit assignment to devise and operate a small business, and he decides to open a sled-dog school. However, it's not easy, mathwise or otherwise from determining operating costs, record-keeping, and teaching his clients (overeager Tubbs and his unruly dog, and Alex, a smart but somewhat snooty girl, both around Matt's age) to balancing the project with chores and watching over his younger sister. But by progressing through his difficulties, Matt gains new perspective, confidence, and skills including their real-life applications as well as new friendships. From contending with school bullies to increasingly learning to valuehis family and their off-the-grid lifestyle, Matt's experiences are supportively portrayed in accessibly written, straightforward prose. Johnson incorporates both lively and reflective moments, abundant dogsledding details, and basic accounting concepts and examples. Though side characters are less developed, many readers will sympathize with and appreciate Matt's challenges and successes. Glossary of dogsledding terms appended.--Rosenfeld, Shelle Copyright 2017 Booklist"
