Booklist Review: "Evelyn and Raleigh Latimer are world-famous monster hunters, and they just died on national television. Even worse, their kids were watching. Despite that grim premise, Goners is somehow still funny, uplifting, and often terrifyingly beautiful. Zoe, 17, and Josiah Latimer, 12, take on the family business as monster hunters in a bloody slash through horrors from every gothic medium, from film to television to straight-up legend. Meanwhile, they uncover unsettling secrets about their parents. Semahn has crafted a detailed, character-driven tale, a deeply rich setting, and great pacing, nimbly leaping forward and back in the story without a hitch. Corona's art, meanwhile, is a sweet surprise. In his angular, exaggerated linework in a rich palette of shadowy hues, the action is kinetic and choreographed, the facial expressions match the narrative with precision, and everything else drives the story tantalizingly onward. Fans of John Layman and Rob Guillory's blockbuster Chew (2010) will find a similar flavor in Corona's artwork, while the monster mayhem will appeal to readers of horror comics.--Spanner, Ben Copyright 2016 Booklist"

Publisher's Weekly Review: "Following the deaths of their famous occult-busting parents, Josiah and Zoe Latimer get swept up in an over-the-top battle between their parents' remaining associates and the demons who did the parents in. While energetic, the adrenaline here quickens the pace so much that the details sometimes become a blur, rendering some aspects of the book obtuse. Even as the battle scenes are creating a physical mess within the story, they're also shaping a narrative one, diverting from the huge amount of information being dumped on the reader. The narrative structure also subverts clarity, insisting on jumping back and forth in time in pacing jolts that depict the family's long history of protecting the Earth, as well as scenes from Zoe's childhood, all competing for your attention against the present day battles and the parade of characters zipping through the story. Corona's art, while technically impressive, sometimes adds to the clutter of the narrative when it could desperately use some reigning in. A lot of thought has obviously gone into this, but a bit more precision and calm might have benefited the execution of the ideas. (May) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved."
