Summary
A celebrated New York author finds her life thrown into chaos when she travels to Amman, Jordan, to plan her wedding in this poignant comedy-drama directed, written by, and starring Cherien Dabis. The toast of the New York literati scene, May (Dabis) lives the kind of glamorous lifestyle that most writers can only hope for. She's engaged to marry the Muslim man of her dreams when she journeys back to Amman to plan her big day with the help of her family. What promised to be a celebratory family reunion quickly turns sour, however, when May's overbearing, born-again Christian mother takes umbrage at the prospect of her daughter marrying a Muslim. Meanwhile, May's sisters treat her more like a mother than a sibling, and her estranged father shows up out of the blue. Now, caught in the thick of the dysfunction she thought she'd left far behind, May begins to question every decision she's ever made -- including her plans to marry the love of her life. Bill Pullman, Hiam Abbass, and Alia Shawkat co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
