Summary

When Hoppy the rabbit wakes up on the first day of spring, he discovers a world full of wonderful things. He uses all five senses to sniff the fresh air, listen to the birds sing, taste the fresh grass, watch the lambs in the meadow, and touch the warm ground. Illustrated in bright, bold collage, this story about seasonal change and sensory perception makes a warm and cozy readaloud.

Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "The title page shows a cutaway view of Hoppy, a rabbit, sleeping in his burrow, but the story begins when he ventures out one morning to see if spring has come. Too cold, he says before hopping back to bed. The next morning, it's too icy, but a few days later, Hoppy tries again. Now he hears birdsong, smells flowers, sees lambs, tastes fresh grass, and feels the warm ground. All his senses tell him spring has come, and a thump of his foot brings other rabbits out to enjoy the season. An appended double-page spread revisits the five senses and what each told Hoppy about the coming of spring. The simply written story provides a suitable framework for this dual-purpose picture book. Created with digitally collaged elements, the appealing illustrations use bold images, springlike colors, and varied textures. With images that can be shared with groups of kids, this book will enhance preschool and primary-grade classroom units on spring or the senses.--Phelan, Carolyn Copyright 2015 Booklist"
