Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "After the Brodskys move into the apartment downstairs, Rebecca Rubin gets to help care for their baby, Nora, and given a recent baby kidnapping, she is especially careful. She is also troubled by other events: her older brother, Victor, is sneaking out at night; a mysterious boy appears whenever she is with Nora; and there's Francesca, another babysitter whom she meets in the park, who begins to act suspiciously. Then another kidnapping occurs and a third. As the mysteries unfold, Rebecca discovers that people and events aren't as they seem, and as she zeros in on solving the babynappings, she realizes that she has put herself in danger. Set in early-twentieth-century New York, this American Girl mystery title incorporates abundant historical details of Rebecca's diverse immigrant neighborhood. An appended section, with historic photos and ephemera, provides more context, with background information on subjects as varied as children's roles in baby care, the Lindbergh kidnapping, and the Jewish holiday Sukkoth. Although the story is occasionally predictable, it offers a good read for history-mystery fans.--Rosenfeld, Shell. Copyright 2010 Booklist"
