Booklist Review: "The latest era of Spider-Man history begins here, as Slott takes over from the rotating group of writers who defined Spidey's world for the last three years. Peter Parker finally fulfills the potential of his scientific genius by landing a job at an important think tank and enjoys his burgeoning relationship with forensic scientist Carlie Cooper. Things don't go completely smoothly, of course, as a new Hobgoblin rears his cackling head, forging a deal with (or is that double crossing?) the Kingpin. Spidey must team up with old flame the Black Cat and don a snazzy new suit that can render him invisible to confront the trouble. Ramos' art leans far toward the cartoony end of the mainstream superhero spectrum but is high in kinetic panache, if not realism, and helps move the dense story through its paces. A backup tale segues into Spidey's next adventure, suggesting a sales agenda at work here, but it's classic superhero drama with a modern veneer that's the current mainstream norm.--Karp, Jess.
