Summary
New Look! Relaunched with new jackets and 8 pages of new text! The story of Titanic's tragic maiden voyage still tugs at the heartstrings and sparks universal curiosity--Eyewitness Titanic discovers the story behind the story. From a Belfast shipyard to the ship's death in the icy Atlantic, the story comes alive through 30D renderings, photographs, and deck plans. Eyewitness Titanic is a compelling narrative of courage and cowardice, sacrifice and survival. See the wreck on the ocean floor, the Titanic's gigantic propeller, and the ship's luxurious interior. Learn how the survivors were rescued from the icy waters and how the shipwreck was located. Discover what caused the "unsinkable" Titanic to sink, the preservation techniques of underwater archeology, and much, much more.
Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "Gr. 3^-8. In the familiar style of DK Eyewitness Books, this attractively displays documentary photos, artifacts, and artistic renderings of the infamous ship. With minimal text and lots of captioned pictures, each double-page spread focuses on a single topic--the ship's construction, predictions of the dire end awaiting the voyage, safety lessons learned from the disaster, etc. There are also comparisons among the accommodations for first-, second-, and third-class passengers; a dramatic re-creation of the moments leading up to and following the collision; and insight into how the confusion and lack of preparedness caused many people to perish unnecessarily. Certain to be a popular addition to school and public library collections. --Ellen Mandel"
