Summary
With the war winding down, Ruby is hoping and praying her husband will be home soon. He's been missing in action for three years, and Ruby has isolated herself and their 10-year-old daughter from the town, and from the world. Now, a drifter has come into their lives. Tom is hired to help fix up their dipalidated farm, but there's a past he won't tell anyone. He has scars and secrets of his own. As Ruby and Tom learn to trust each other they discover feelings of love neither are prepared to handle.
