Over 80 periodical titles and 200 books have been searched; a large number of the journals included were not originally indexed.Arrangement is alphabetical by author, Ada to Nzadi Zimele-Keita. An appendix provides reference to authors by genre and serves as a guide to black women who have been writing creatively. Another appendix describes works about black women including literary criticism, book reviews, interviews, biographies, and bibliographies.
