The Human Body is a four-volume series specially designed to study the remarkable structures and processes that are part of all of us. Each volume offers young readers detailed information about the multitude of functions that occur continuously inside the human body. Accurate, easy-to-understand text accompanied by detailed color illustrations work together to provide a clear picture of what enables the extraordinary machine that is the human body to work smoothly and efficiently.

Vocal cords, lungs, heart, red and white blood cells, arteries, veins, and more -- how can so many parts and pieces work together so smoothly? Respiration and Circulation presents an exciting opportunity to readily grasp topics that may seem, at first, too complicated to understand. Clearly labeled illustrations help readers visualize and simplify the processes involved in breathing and the transportation of blood to every cell -- and put essential knowledge of the human body quickly and easily into their hands.

Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "Gr. 8^-12. A lot of complex information is explained in these basic introductions to human anatomy and physiology in The Human Body series, which was first published in Spain. The design is clear, with lavish full-color illustrations and diagrams. Each double-page spread takes a topic (the autonomic nervous system, arterial circulation, etc.): the left-hand page looks at what it is, the right-hand discusses how it works. The science is sophisticated; the writing and diagrams are technical, but the design, which is less intimidating than a comprehensive reference book, makes it possible to concentrate on one small piece at a time. There is additional end matter that includes a glossary, a bibliography of other series books, and a list of videos and Web sites. Other titles are listed in this issue's Series Roundup. --Hazel Rochman"
