Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "Gr. 3^-6. Each chapter consists of an interview with one of 12 adventurers--among them, a rain forest ecologist, an anthropologist, and an arachnologist. The breezy narratives explain how childhood interests led to exciting careers. The accompanying photographs, including ones of the adventurers as children, make young scientific dreams excitingly real. Each individual answers the same 10 questions, ranging from ones about the practical and difficult aspects of the career to ones about the scariest and most exciting things that happened on a job. Six of the chapters conclude with a "Check it out" section listing other sources of information regarding the individual's work. The Web sites listed are mostly geared to educators, and the book's glossary is oddly anemic (explorer is defined, but ecology is not). However, this well-organized book, with spectacular, well-placed, captioned photos, is sure to enhance classroom science studies and please the ever curious reader. --Karen Simonetti"
