Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "Ages 5-8. Accorsi tells the story of the Mayflower and the first year of Plymouth Colony from Friendship's point of view. Who's Friendship? He's the Pilgrims' spotted dog, who comments on the action from the Atlantic crossing ("arf, arf, land ho!"), through the befriending of Samoset and Squanto, to the Thanksgiving feast. The book ends with a few notes on the illustrations and the story. The colorful paintings, wide panoramas with a stylized, folk-art flavor, will be more effective for group sharing than for close-up viewing. While the text is a bit long for preschoolers, primary-grade children may find this a pleasing retelling of the familiar story. ~--Carolyn Phelan"
