Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "Ages 6-9. Accorsi, author-illustrator of My Name Is Pocahontas, takes the life of Rachel Carson as the subject of his latest picture-book biography. Beginning with Carson's childhood, the simple text describes her concerns, her work, and the major events in her life. The illustrations, naive paintings in pastel colors, are pleasant enough, but their function seems mainly decorative. In the pictures, Carson is an iconographic female figure; when the grown-up Carson and her mother appear together, they look like identical twins in identical clothes. While adults may find this echo of children's art charming, kids will more likely wonder which one is Rachel and what she really looked like. Still, libraries with a demand for biographies at the primary-grade level will want to consider this one. ~--Carolyn Phelan"
