Booklist Review: "Gr.4-6. Mahlmann and Jones have adapted 25 classic children's stories and fairy tales, including Pinocchio, Alice's Adventure's in Wonderland, and Peter Pan, specifically for production as puppet plays. The plays, which range in duration from 15 to 25 minutes, differ in tone: some are rather flip, but others are serious. Although they require various degrees of expertise with puppets and staging, they could easily be produced in the classroom. The authors provide production notes at the end of each script, offering hints on properties, sound, lighting, settings, and designing and dressing puppets. The final chapter, "How to Produce a Puppet Show," presents detailed instructions for creating and manipulating several types of puppets and marionettes, constructing puppet stages, creating scenery, "acting," and incorporating music. A valuable resource for teachers interested in using puppets in the classroom. ~--Chris Sherman"
