Published Reviews
Booklist Review: "Gr. 4^-7. Had the photos all been of uniform quality (some are simply too dark or fuzzy), this would have been an outstanding book. As it is, it's still a well-done overview of a subject that fascinates many kids. Part of the charm lies in Scott's comparing old and new special effects techniques and her descriptions of the planning and coordination of effects for such popular films as Forrest Gump, Jurassic Park, and Backdraft. She also pays heed to the influence that computers have had on the film industry and gets down to some nitty-gritty descriptions of the ways that mattes, models, and special makeups are used today. A glimpse of a few of the people who work in the business adds to the fun. --Stephanie Zvirin"
