Presents the stories of ten well-known ballets, including Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, and others.
"Gr. 4-7. Berger retells the stories of 10 popular, traditional ballets that children might expect to see: La Sylphide, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Coppelia, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, Firebird, and Petrouchka. While her use of dialogue in retelling a ballet might seem out of place initially, it brings the stories to life on the page, just as movement does on the stage. She also strikes a good balance between spelling out every movement and telling enough to make the ballets comprehensible. Stylized, full-color, full-page illustrations appear with each story, though the many pages of solid type keep this from looking like a picture book. A useful, attractive volume for libraries with a demand for books on the subject. ~--Carolyn Phelan"
